The Story
The Mediterranean Lily Vase is part of the Mediterranean Collection, an exclusive collaboration between Asprey and Jonathan Harris, the renowned British contemporary glass artist. A limited edition of only 15 vases, it is inspired by the rich flora bordering the Mediterranean Sea, including the lily, lupin, myrtle, and olive leaves.
Each vase is created through a complex process in which layers of rich, transparent glass colours are built on the blowing iron to form the ‘cameo blank,’ with delicate slivers of gold leaf added between hot layers. The layers are then carved through with diamond point drills and refined through contemporary sand-carving techniques, creating intricate reliefs both inside and out. Approximately 70 hours of work are required to complete each piece, which is hand buffed and polished with fine diamonds to achieve a soft, silky finish.
Each vase bears the Asprey branding on the base, is signed by Jonathan Harris, and engraved with its edition number and year of production. As a subtle detail for collectors, a hidden set of JH initials is blended within each design.
